Behind the Setup, Then the Party Took Over
Every event starts long before the first song plays. Our team pulled the trailer in, started unloading gear bag by bag, sweat going before ten in the morning most days. Sore hands, sore backs, but somehow always a few laughs getting through it. Nobody claps for this part, guests never see it, but it is exactly why I still love doing this. Every bag we carry means another set is about to begin.
Then the doors opened and the room changed completely. Green and pink lighting took over the space, the floor filled up fast, and the energy held all night long. I still feel that shift every single time it happens. Being part of someone's biggest night never gets old, and nothing beats watching a client come find you at the end with a hug and a thank you. That's the real reason I keep doing this.
Quince Night In Miami, The Floor Never Stopped
Every quince starts with getting the booth just right, but even before that comes cleaning up the sweat and working through the soreness from load in. That switch is always my favorite part, freshening up and stepping into the moment with the energy ready to go. Lights up, sound tested, everything ready under a bright Miami afternoon, and by then my confidence is exactly where it needs to be. Quinces are special, this one included, and I genuinely love this part of the job.
Quince night in Miami, and the floor never stopped. Guests moved all night under the string lights and lanterns, glow sticks flying, energy building with every song. This is the part that gets me every time, watching the quinceañera completely lose herself in the moment, surrounded by everyone who came out for her. That kind of joy is impossible not to feel from behind the booth.
The Load In Starts Before Most People Are Awake, A Miami Wedding
Every case gets pulled out and checked before anything goes up. No shortcuts here, one loose cable or dead battery can throw off the whole night.
The booth doesn't travel assembled, it gets built from scratch every single time, right there on site. But every piece goes together with real passion, love, and excitement, because every single opportunity like this is exactly what it's all about.
Sweat starting before the sun's even up, my back and hands feeling every bit of it, but watching the room slowly come together while nobody's even awake yet is still one of my favorite parts of this job.
By the time the sun went down, the whole room turned into something else entirely. The wedding party circled the floor for their first dance, guests followed close behind, and once the energy hit, we had the whole room jumping around all night long. Watching two families come together on one dance floor, all that joy in one room, that's the moment I show up for every single time.
It all starts beautifully during the ceremony, then transitions into the party once the energy takes over. This one felt different, an extremely magical and special night, the newlyweds were genuinely thrilled, and by the end I felt like family, not just their DJ.
The Sound of the Starting Line: DJ Zapmar at the Life Time Miami Marathon and Half

Event date: January 25, 2026.
On Sunday, January 25, 2026, DJ Zapmar set up at the start line of the 24th annual Life Time Miami Marathon and Half, right in front of the Kaseya Center in downtown Miami. I got there at 1 AM. It was really dark, the palm trees were glowing under the arena lights, and the street that would soon be packed with runners was still quiet, but I was so excited and full of energy to help lift up so many people from all over the world in one shot. Every big morning starts this way, with a few hours of setup that nobody sees.
Watch the start line wake up
Then the corral started to fill. By race morning, more than 18,000 runners from 49 states and 82 countries were on their way to the start. As they packed in, I kept a run of tracks all sitting at 128 BPM, including Contigo and Jamaican Bam Bam. This reel is the start line from my point of view, from the last quiet minutes to the moment the crowd came alive.
The energy in the minutes before a race is unlike anything else. Months of early mornings and long runs, all standing in one street, nervous and excited at the same time. I felt a little of that positive nervousness too, because like any human being, you want everything to go right. I had goosebumps and a little sweat from setting everything up and making sure it all looked and sounded good, but at the end of the day, it was all worth it. After all that sweat, I was very confident. It was an amazing experience, and I feel humble and blessed to be the one turning the music up for that moment and injecting a little extra energy into people right before one of the biggest challenges of their year. Every drop, every shout, every hand in the air reminded me why I love this work. The crowd was feeling it, and that is what it is all about.
The whole world on one street
This is Miami at its best. Runners from all over the world stood side by side under the palm trees, with flags from many countries flying at the start. Plenty of them shouted out their countries as the music played, and Brazil was really prominent, but every part of the world was in that crowd. Latin rhythms, EDM drops, and pure 305 classics hit differently when that many cultures are sharing one beat. Nobody needed a translation. Everyone understood the music, and you could feel the whole crowd lift together.
Family and friends showed up
The race is only half of the story. Just as loud as the runners were the families and friends lining the barricades and the steps of the Kaseya Center, phones up and banners high, shouting names and cheering for the people they love. I love you. You got this. Go, go, let's go. Being part of a morning where a whole community comes together to support each other is an honor I do not take for granted.
